As some of you may know, a few days ago the beverage company, Red Bull, sponsored a record-breaking freefall from space via their media company Red Bull Media House. According to their timeline, they’ve been working with Austrian skydiving professional, Felix Baumgartner, since 2005 to pull off the stunt – a freefall at the speed of sound from the stratosphere. Untold millions of dollars later, on October 14, Felix broke world records and mission Red Bull Stratos was accomplished.
Now if you’re a small or mid-sized business you might be experiencing a sinking feeling inside. Whether or not that stunt will turn into a huge uptick in sales for Red Bull, it did put them “on the map” with the huge PR and media blitz. You might be sitting there thinking that you don’t have millions of dollars laying around to take on worldwide attention, let alone your local market, in some sort of huge marketing campaign.
